{"id":29,"date":"2017-03-23T11:05:14","date_gmt":"2017-03-23T11:05:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themify.me\/demo\/themes\/ultra-accountant\/?page_id=6371"},"modified":"2024-11-28T14:22:52","modified_gmt":"2024-11-28T14:22:52","slug":"home-accountant","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ssmnetwork.org.uk\/","title":{"rendered":"Home &#8211; Accountant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--themify_builder_static--><\/p>\n<h2>National Network of SSM Officers and Advisers<\/h2>\n<p>The National Network of SSM Officers and Advisers is a community of interest run for and by diocesan officers, advisers and other members representing SSOMs across the Church of England and other provinces.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the Network are designated diocesan representatives for self-supporting ministry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are SSOMs?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Self-Supporting Ordained Ministers (SSOMs, also widely known as SSMs) are licensed clergy who offer their ministry on an unpaid basis. My own secular employment helped to shape how I inhabit ministry, even today &#8230; Self-supporting ordained ministers and ministers in secular employment enrich churches, communities and workplaces \u2013 each in a distinctive and unique way. This is a huge gift to the church and to society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Julie&#8217;s appointment coincides with the appointment of Rev Tony Redman, who takes up the role of the Church of England&#8217;s National Officer for SSOM.\u00a0\u00a0Julie says, \u201cI am very much looking forward to working with Tony as he takes over the role.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>SSMs in the media<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>BBC:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/av\/uk-england-cumbria-60507941?mc_cid=f6ece001e1&amp;mc_eid=b1c6cdf131\">Barrow GP &#8216;answers sense of call&#8217; as a vicar<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/articles\/2022\/25-february\/audio-video\/podcast\/hugh-williamson-on-ordained-ministry-in-the-secular-workplace\">Church Times podcast on MSEs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Around half of SSMs are in paid work outside the church, sometimes on a full-time basis.
